Victory Baltic Porter
Tonight was a brew night and no brew night is complete without some suds. This evenings brew of choice was Victory’s Baltic Thunder. I popped it open and poured a glass. A small head formed as I poured but quickly dispersed leaving the medium dark beer waiting in the glass. On my first taste I got heavy charred barley and a whack of alcohol as the beer weighs in at 8.5 ABV. I also got a very strange wintergreen kind of taste on the finish. I’m not sure if it was because I just had a glass of Strong Irish Red or what, but the wintergreen is a taste I would rather leave in the toothpaste tube. After a few more sips the strange finish went away but the beer still left me disappointed. I would definitely try another Victory beer but after having some amazing Porters lately this one just doesn’t cut it for me.
