Renegade Brewing Company is an upstart brewery in Denver, Colorado. Brian O’Connell, proprietor and head brewer, took a few minutes out of his busy day to tell me about his brewery, his beers and the Renegade community he is building. If you are ever in Denver make sure you stop by to check out the […]
Even before we started brewing we had come across the elusive Healdsburg Beer Company beer at a local restaurant and had wondered who it was and where it was being produced. A few months later the first half of that question was answered when we met Kevin McGee, proprietor and brewmaster of Healdsburg Beer Company, at Beer in the Plaza, a tasting and fundraiser held here in Healdsburg (also the only event Healdsburg Beer Company pours at).
Tucked in a great little semi-industrial park on the north side of Santa Cruz is Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery. Intermixed with a couple of winery neighbors it’s got a great little bar and patio seating that saw a lot of people coming and going during my short stop off. After reading through the tap board […]
Renegade is a not so little brewery and tap-room just off a main street only a few blocks from downtown Denver. But when you walk in it feels like it is just a neighborhood hangout. Like Denver Beer Co it’s got a roll up glass door that was up letting in lots of fresh air and light, high ceilings, a beautiful bar and it just felt very welcoming. We headed up to the bar and ordered a sample of a few beers that we didn’t try the previous night. They were all excellent. We ordered a few that we had tried a few nights before, they were all much better. I can’t really guess what happened to the beers between the brewery and the restaurant but they were not a great example of Renegades quality, these guys are making great beers.
If today were to have a subtitle it would read something like the day of the nano. We took an easy morning and headed out to Jelly, a great little breakfast joint, for a late breakfast. Afterwards we took a decent drive out to Caution: Brewing Co. Caution is a production facility on the outskirts of Denver who had opened their doors for tours of their small, but impressive, facility. When we got there we were excitedly greeted by Danny who is the brewer/owner along with his wife Betty. He gave us the grand tour of the two room operation including the mash and kettle system that they picked up used from Odell.
The first official day of GABF had us heading out to two of Denver’s newest breweries Strange Brewing Company which opened a few months before GABF last year, and Wits End a new nano brewery that opened only days ago. Last year we discovered Strange Brewing Company through a local newspaper article and decided to […]
Although the official first day of GABF isn’t until tomorrow, events are in full swing and now that I’m back out of the amazing high Rockies it’s time to jump head first into the world of beer. For today we kept it simple with happy hour at Cheeky Monk and a paired beer dinner at Watercourse.
So it’s that time of year, time to make the pilgrimage out to Denver, Colorado for the largest beer festival in the US, the Great American Beer Festival. Last year was our first year out and we’ve been anticipating going back ever since. On the docket this year is a beer pairing dinner at Watercourse […]
Iron Springs Brewery head brewer Christian Kazakoff teamed up with Sonoma Beerocrats President Alan Atha to brew Alan’s Luminesce for the Great American Beer Festivals Pro-Am competition. Luminesce is an award winning classic Belgian Trippel. I got to spend the day with them recording the brew session and getting a behind the scenes look at how they brew at Iron Springs Brewery. The beer was released a couple of weeks ago so if you want to try it head down to Iron Springs Brewery and check it out.
